If you are interested in working with numbers, enjoy analysing statistical information, are creative with ideas and solutions then you may want to consider studying a Bachelor of Commerce.
A commerce degree will give you a good platform for the future whether or not you become an accountant. Many members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants have gone on to take senior management roles - simply because an understanding of what drives business is a much valued attribute.
As a trainee, you would do this course part-time over 6 years whilst working full-time at Farrow Wyatt. You would ideally do 2 subjects per semester which usually requires 8 hours face-to-face time. Your first subjects in a commerce degree would be Financial Accounting (ACFI 1001) and Economics (ECON1001).
You will need to plan your degree to ensure you meet the ICAA requirements. Your Farrow Wyatt mentor would help you with this.
If you can demonstrate to a prospective employer that you have analytical and problem solving skills, and good communication, teamwork and leadership ability, it will stand you in good stead.
